isang taon ng ka hardcore-an

September 29th, 2008 by martha-is-beautifully-chaotic

Mark and I turned 1 yesterday. yehey! anyway, as part of this mushy commemoration of our relationship.. i usually gave him his requested cds of another new bands he discovered, from emo-screamo and hardcore to some techno bands he’s starting to love.. but instead of doing it, i burnt him a compiled songs that reminds me of him and our experiences over the past year.. and  wrote him a letter explaining and/or reminding him of what does each song mean.. ;)

(this is not exactly the same content with the letter i gave him, i deleted the personal part..heehee)

Brighter

Artist: Paramore

This is the first song that reminds me of you. Sabi mo pag nakanta ko ‘to pakakasalan mo ako.. haha.. mga pa-cute days ta.. hehehe ;)

“Well this is not your fault
But if I’m without you
Then I will feel so small
And if you have to go
Always know that you shine brighter than anyone does.”

First of Summer

Artist: urbandub

Covered by Insignia at Peñaranda park. You sang along to this song. It put a smile to my face because it’s our first date and we seem so comfortable with each other already. February 14, 2007—Valentine’s day..haha!.

“We’re living it up
Make this night ours
We own the world
I wish this lasts forever
Alone with you tonight
Further in you feels so right.”

I miss you

Artist: Blink 182

This is supposed to be a different song. Letters to you sana ng Finch ang ilalagay ko kaso I found out na kanta din pala yun sau ng isa sa mga ex mo haha.. kaya ito nalang. Ito kasi yung tawag mo sakin.. haha… IMISHU.. kasi sabi mo nga palagi kitang namimiss. And that’s where our term of endearment comes from.. how creative. ;).. na-extra din dito si jack and sally, kita baga ito? Hehe..

“We can live like Jack and Sally if we want
where you can always find me
we’ll have Halloween on Christmas
And in the night we’ll wish this never ends
we’ll wish this never ends.”

I want you to want me

Artist: letters to cleo

I remembered you texted me one night containing the exact lyrics of this song. Akala mo ‘di ko marerecognize huh.. hehe… by this time we had a mutual understanding but things are complicated then.. =(

“I want you to want me; I need you to need me.

I love you to love me; I’m begging you to beg me”

No Ordinary Love

Artist: urbandub

For me, this is the best song that could ever describe the nature of our relationship. I already wrote something about this on my blog, diba?

“There’s nothing like you and I baby
this is no ordinary love
No ordinary love
this is no ordinary love
No ordinary love
when you came my way
you brightened every day
with your sweet smile…”

Alright Alright

Artist: sahara hotnights

This song is for all the wasted, sleepless nights, gigs and all the fun that we encountered together. ;)

Martha: “I wanna make some noise”

Mark: “Alright! Alright!”

Guillotine

Artist: Urbandub

We sing along to this song every so often. Be it on the radio or covered by local bands here..hehe. Parang instant na kagad that we’re supposed to sing along with it. Although the lyrics are not quite appropriate for us, catchy kasi yung song eh..;)

“You’re pushing me too far
we’ve had our run
with your arms wrapped tight
around my neck
Close my eyes I sink and grasp for breath.”

Procrastinator

Artist: sandwich

Another one of our fave! Haha.. bakit? Feeling mo kasi you look like Mong Alcaraz.. haha. And that skinny jeans of his.. harhar. We sing along to this song din especially the Hey! Hey! Part.. haha..;)

“You can count on me
I’m gonna get it done, get it done
Before the night segues to day
Before the city wakes
Before the rooster shakes
Before the icing hits the cake
We gotta operate..hey! hey!”

You told me you loved me

Artist: cinematic sunrise

This song is for all the sad moments, the bad memories and all the fights. Why did I still include this? Because all those memories helped strengthen our relationship.

“An endless scilence.
It’s been too long since I’ve heard from you.
And I lay sleepless
Knowing that my heart still belongs to you.
and I’ve never been one to brag.”

241 (my favorite song)

Artist: rivermaya

I may not emphasize to you how much I love it when you sing this song in videoke! hehehe. But really, it makes my heart melts whenever you sing this song, makes me want to smother you..haha. This song compliments your voice better than the song ‘I don’t want to miss a thing’.. haha. You sing great mark. Believe me.

“I want to live forever

Inside the nights and days.

Wishing on a silver cloud,

Crawling across the moonbeams.

A summer night in heaven

Between the stars and waves.

Race across the old bonfire;

Trample on my heartbeat.”

“I wanted to turn you on

My favorite song.

Wanted to be near you

But somebody owns you now.”

Hallelujah

Artist: paramore

And then we decided that we’ll make us last forever…

“This time we’re not giving up,
Let’s make it last forever,
Screaming “Hallelujah”.
We’ll make it last forever.”

Come what may

Artist: Ewan Mcgregor and Nicole kidman

Sabi mo nga this is our wedding song Hahahaha… soundtrack of one of your favorite movies, Moulin rouge.;)

“Oh, come what may, come what may

I will love you, I will love you

Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place

Come what may

Come what may

I will love you until my dying day”

Happy anniversary Mark;)

i’m starting a new life

June 8th, 2008 by martha-is-beautifully-chaotic

i will be a psychology major in Aquinas University of Legazpi this school year.
i wanted sociology sana, kaso it’s within bicol university but they are not accepting me anymore because i already took more than 50% of the entire unit of my course, and they require a half or lesser.
so, i thought of  taking up psychology. since i cannot be enrolled in BU anymore, i chose AUL than DWCL because my sister lal (who had a masteral in psych. too) is heading a center there in AUL, (called the SIRANGAN) where she counsel abused children and women. i thought i could help her out there, and got to see her and be inspired by her regarding this area.. and i could do something about what feminism had implied to me..a fulfillment in my part.
sad to say, i’m still on my 2nd year there, but they are encouraging me to get advance subjects since i already took minor subjects in BU, pre-requisite of other subjects  they offered.
i’m through with algebra, trigo, gen. and org. chem and physics.
i’m also through with all my P.Es (yehey!) and NSTP (double yehey!) but i have to take THEO (maygass) and a lot of social sciences!.. and of course major subjects of psych. i hope i’ll enjoy as much as i’ll learn.
well, papa and i still didnt talk one-on-one regarding this matter but he’s not expressing any anger, a little dissapointment maybe because he’s expecting me to be graduating this year. but they are still supportive as ever, because we all know i’m still yearning to learn.. not just to graduate.

this is my second chance to live. it’s up to me to let this go or to live with it.

though i’ve been so down these past weeks and all the tension of this risky decision has made me lose more weight (..yes i’ve been feeling insecure as ever with my anorexic look) i’m trying to be as optimistic as i could.. what’s important for me is that I still believe in myself.. and i just need to eat more heehee.. no need for pep talk anymore =’)

no ordinary love

No
Ordinary Love

I still have your C.D. of
Urbandub with me. I know this is one of your favorite tracks from this album. I,
too, became attached to this particular song and hey, come to think of it, our
love is no ordinary at all.

1. We barely text each other. Except
if we’re going out or I’m inviting you to something. I’m not the
“nasaan-ka-nanaman” kind of girlfriend like I was before. That is because I
know your routines and usual whereabouts, and if ever you’re going out on your
occasional gimmicks, you tell me beforehand. I know, and your mom assured me so
too. =)

2. I know your friendster
password
. Sometimes keeping their privacy in friendster is such a big deal
to some people. Well, at least for someone I know, but not you. So far, you’re
consistent with your stories about who’s who (past or present) and I appreciate
you for being honest with me.

3. You let me do what I want
to do
. No restrictions. Vices are allowed (not encouraged though), you’re
very supportive of me being in a band, you jam with my friends and you trust me
regarding these things; maybe because it’s the same ground where we two knew
each other first.

4. You met my family. You
may not be my first boyfriend, but you’re the first one to meet my family. From
Papa to my 2-year old niece, everyone in my family knows you. This is such a
big deal for me and I’m very proud of you for being so brave in front of them.
We know we’re not going to screw things up because we know each other better
than anyone else.

5. Although I’m not emo, and
you are never punk
,
and although I don’t like anime just as you dislike
watching adult swim, we still had gazillion things to talk about. From politics
to aswang to movies and music to
who’s dating who.

6. You sure know how to make
me laugh.
Your crazy antics, your silly dance to R&B and pop songs
(which sometimes annoy me but find it cute anyway), our wacky poses on cam,
your corny jokes – all these and more are enough to brighten my days and forget
about what I should be whining about to
you. Hmmp!

7. We hardly talk about the
future
or what’s going to happen to our individual lives or even to us.
We’re both savoring life as of the moment. No expectations, no pressures of
what’s going to happen next and look, we’re on our 8th month now.

8. And above all, you love me
as me
. You love un-glamorous me! I never heard a single comment from you to
change what I wear, to grow my hair longer or what color my nails should be.

I have a million
reasons in my mind to thank you about: for teaching me how to be patient, for
making me happy, for respecting me and…

Oh, I just love you.
You’re the best thing that happened to me. =’)

What are the Riot Grrrls?

What are the Riot Grrrls?

Young, alternative, feminist grrls and grrl-friendly boys. We are pro-expression, and pro-androgyny. We are anti-authority, anti-racism, anti-sexism, anti-homophobia, anti-ageism, and anti-fascism. We are not dykes and bitches, although we celebrate rather than shun these qualities. We are grrrls, the epitome of femininity, meaning we celebrate who we are, and deny the mainstream all-American fashionplate girl. We can be individuals and be female, we can be powerful and be female, we can be smart and be female, and we won’t let media and sexism tell us otherwise. We are working for a world free of oppression and discrimination. In Solidarity!

Feminism Friday: A Brief History Of Riot Grrrl

Here is a brief history of riot grrrl. Later, I might write my own more detailed version. Here is the version from the Riot Grrrl Online website.

Riot Grrrl began in 1991 at Olympia Washington, when a few girls (mostly from Bikini Kill and Bratmobile) decided to get together and talk about their main interests..feminism and punk rock. The first time they met it was all fun, they put up posters to get attention of other open minded girls. Then they found out they had other things in common: they were all vegetarians; against drugs; and had been molested as children. At one meeting a very smart girl took notes, photocopied them and turned them into a cool fanzine. That’s how it all began. Some people think that Bikini Kill started it all, in my eyes they did. Bikini Kill, however does not think of themselves as starting the riot grrrl movement. In Bikini Kill’s songs, they sing about different women issues such as: rape, incest, and other issues that some women face. Some people think that bikini kill, riot grrrls, and feminists are ‘man-haters’. They’re not. They just want to be equal to men, not better to them. Zines are a BIG part of the riot grrrl scene. Most riot grrrls believe in DIY. (do it yourself) That means that they start riot grrrl chapters, zines, etc. of their own around the riot grrrl movement.

Girl Love Is…

The following is from the zine Tennis and Violins by
Kristy Chan. It is taken from here:
http://web.archive.org/web/20011020035444/www.geocities.com/SoHo/Cafe/3685/girllove.html

Girl Love Is…

* treating all girls with respect
* hugging your girlfriends and being there for them
* protecting each other and providing a feeling of safety
when we walk down the street or go out
* making space where women/girls feel unthreatened and unintimidated
* talking about abuse and rape when no one else will listen
* making other girls feel unafraid to eat in public or around others
* making other girls feel comfortable in their bodies
* being kind to your mom and not expecting her to wait on you
* not judging women/girls on their looks and/or hating them for being pretty
* not competing for boys’ attention
* not looking/acting dumb on purpose so boys will like you
* not picking your new boyfriend over your old girlfriends
* calling people on their shit, including your girlfriends because it helps us to stay aware of things we do that are fucked up and things we need to change
* not feeling homophobic around your girlfriends and refusing to touch them
* learning and teaching each other how to do stuff and be active
* screaming in public
* knowing that girls can do anything boys can do
* stopping jealousy
* realizing that girls who have sex aren’t “sluts” or bad and respecting their sexual choices as something that you might not understand of have any business speculating on
* being pro-choice
* knowing that you are connected to all girls and the way you view yourself is related to their self-image as well
* sharing resources with other girls
* helping each other see our beauty and build our own culture around what we see
* wearing make-up and tight clothes because we want to
* being sexy and powerful
* being honest and straight-forward with your girlfriends because mind games suck and keep us divided
* talking about our feelings
* holding hands
* feeling okay about being naked around each other
* having sex and making out (if you want to) and liking it
* understanding that girls that we may not like are people, too and are affected by the same institutions that affect all of us
* not letting the words “feminist”, “slut”, “whore”, “bitch”, etc. be used as insults against us
* refusing to let companies prey on our insecurities in
order to get our money (how many times have you
bought some low-fat diet shit because you feel insecure
about your body or bought make-up to hide your face
that you think isn’t pretty?)
* trying to understand how oppression and the status quo
work and how we fit into it
* reclaiming our customs and rituals (hanging out in the
bathroom, slumber parties, shopping, the color pink,
whatever we fucking want)
* self-love

Ang pagiging babae ay pamumuhay sa panahon ng digma - joi barrios

April 14th, 2008 by martha-is-beautifully-chaotic

Ang pagiging babae ay pamumuhay
Sa panahon ng digma.
Dapat ingatan at pag-isipan
Ang lahat na ginagawa,
Lahat na salitang lumalabas
Sa aking mga bibig,
Na wala nang silbi sa lipunan
Kundi ang lagyan ng lipstik.

Sa bawat araw
Kailangan kong harapin,
Ang imahen kong nangugutya
Sa harap ng salamin.
Binubulong nito sa akin
Na ang maganda lamang sa lipunan,
Ay ang 36-24-36
Na hugis ng katawan.

Hindi lamang dugo ang naibubuwis
Sa marahas na digmaang ito,
Ngunit pati ang mga luha
Na galing sa mga mata ko;
At ng bawat inang di napasalamatan
Sa kanyang pag-aaruga;

Ng bawat babaeng nagahasa
Na hindi pa nabibigyan ng hustisya;
Ng bawat asawang nagpapagod
Sa mga gawaing bahay;

Rock and Roll Lifestyle - cake

March 21st, 2008 by martha-is-beautifully-chaotic

(one of my favorites)

Well, your CD collection looks shiny and costly,
how much did you pay for your bad Moto Guzzi?
And how much did you spend on your black leather jacket?
Is it you, or your parents, in this income tax bracket?

Now, tickets to concerts and drinking at clubs
is sometimes for music that you haven’t even heard of.
And how much did you pay for your rock and roll t-shirt
that proves you were there, that you heard of them first?

How much did you pay for the chunk of his guitar,
the one he ruthlessly smashed at the end of the show?
And how much will HE pay for a brand-new guitar,
one which he’ll ruthlessly smash at the end of another show?
And how long will the workers keep building him new ones,
as long as their soda cans are red, white and blue ones?
And how long will the workers keep building him new ones,
as long as their soda cans are red, white and blue ones?

Aging black leather and hospital bills..
And tatoo removal and dozens of pills.
Your liver pays dearly now for youthful magic moments,
but rock on completely with brand new components.

Excess ain’t rebellion.
You’re drinking what they’re selling.
Your destruction doesnt hurt them,
your chaos won’t covert them.
They’re so happy to rebuild it.
You’ll never really kill it off.
Yeah,
Excess ain’t rebellion.
You’re drinkin’ what they’re selling.
Excess ain’t rebellion ahhhh.
You’re drinkin’, you’re drinkin’ ahh yeah
you’re drinkin’ what they’re selling..

Now how do you afford your rock and roll lifestyle?
How do you afford your rock and roll lifestyle?
How do you afford your rock and roll lifestyle…
Ohhhh tell me..

My Short Skirt

January 4th, 2008 by martha-is-beautifully-chaotic

from Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues

My short skirt
is not an invitation
a provocation
an indication
that I want it
or give it
or that I hook.

My short skirt
is not a legal reason
for raping me
although it has been before
it will not hold up
in the new court.

My short skirt,
believe it or not
has nothing to do with you.

My short skirt
is about discovering
the power of my lower calves
about cool autumn air traveling
up my inner thighs
about allowing everything I see or pass or feel to live inside

My short skirt is not proof
that I am stupid
or undecided
or a malleable little girl

My short skirt
is my defiance
I will not let you make me afraid

My short skirt
is not showing off
this is who I am
before you made me cover it
or tone it down.
Get used to it.

My short skirt i
is happiness
I can feel myself on the ground.
I am here. I am hot.

My short skirt
is a liberation
flag the women’s army
I declare these streets, any streets
my vagina’s country.

My short skirt
is turquoise water
with swimming colored fish
a summer festival
in the starry dark
a bird calling
a train arriving in a foreign town

my short skirt
is a wild spin
a full breath
a tango dip

my short skirt i
is initiation
appreciation
excitation.

But mainly…

my short skirt
and everything under it
is Mine

Mine.

Mine.

ME: this is one great entry i copied from the site of clementinecannibal. i feel ashamed though because i still haven’t read or watched plays of that "the vagina monolouges" and i remembered it was been played at Aquinas University i guess three years ago.. and i was stupid then (well, i didn’t say that im not anymore), and so i let the opportunity passed… hehe sayang. ^^
